Foursevens Preon Series Review

Fist up and the smallest we have the Foursevens Preon P0 or Preon 0
Perfect for a keyring this flood style flashlight also contains a magnet in the back for easy hands free use. The Preon P0 uses a single AAA battery and has a High and Low output setting. On the low setting you will get .24 lumens for 120 hrs, and on the high you will get 25 lumens for 1.5 hrs.



 Foursevens Preon P1 or Preon 1 The Preon P1 is also a single AAA battery flashlight but has increased lumens and more functions. Using the second generation Cree XP-G LED you can get an amazing 84 lumens on the high setting. You get 8 modes of use that include High, Med, Lo, Strobe, SOS, Becon Hi, and Becon Lo. The Preon P1 is avalible in black, blue, red, and yellow anodized aluminum, or if you want the ultimate P1 you can get it in Titanium for a few extra bucks.



Foursevens Preon P2 or Preon 2
The Preon P2 is the same setup as the Preon P1 only it uses two AAA batteries and cranks the output up to 192 lumens. They have also added a push button tail cap so you do not have to twist the front to turn it on or off. Both Preons have a pocket clip and include batteries,split ring adapter, split ring, and spare orings. Both Preons also use the same heads and tail caps. This allows you to fully customize your EDC flashlight. For example if you want a yellow P2 with a black head and black flat tail cap(my personal setup), or you can buy a p2 and a p1 body and switch between one or two AAA use.

This is a shot sitting on the table. Preon 2 on the top and Preon 1 on the bottom. One thing I noticed a was surprised to see is that the Preon 1 had a warmer color to the light, but both lights have the Cree XP-G Gem 2 Led. 

Foursevens gives you ALOT of light for the money and after owning one for over a year now I am vary pleased. My Preon 2 is always in my pocket.

The Mini series come in four battery configurations, one AA(MA), two AA(M2A), CR2(MLR2), and CR123A(ML). With a range of 108 to 252 lumens. Equipped with the same seven interface modes as the Preon series you will get longer run times and more battery choices in a slightly bigger package. You twist the Mini series like the Preion P1 and P0 to turn the flashlight on and off, or cycle the modes. The Foursevens Mini series include batteries,  a lanyard, split ring, and spare o-ring in the package. Only the Foursevens Mini M2A (2xAA) flashlight comes with a pocket clip.

Unforchantly we had some local law enforcement guys come in and buy all the Foursevens Mini flashlights we had before I could get some good pictures of them . Yeah there that nice, but don't worry we have more on the way and I will update the review when they get here.

Quark Pro

The Foursevens Quark Series has the most options and accessories out of all the Foursevens flashlights. First you have the Quark Pro Series that comes in one AA(QPA), two AA(QP2A), one CR123A(QPL / QPLC), or two CR123A(QP2L). Depending on the model the max lumens output is between 130 (QPA) and 432 (QP2L-X). They have also added to the interface and now give you eight modes to pick from. Moonlight, Low, Medium, High, Maximum, Strobe, SOS, and Beacon.

The interface for the Quark Pro is a little different but might be my favorite. 

With the bezel fully tightened you can lightly press the button and cycle from max output to strobe. If you loosen the bezel you can cycle between moonlight, low, medium, high, SOS, and beacon.

Once the Quark Pro has been off for at least three seconds it will reset to the first level of output, either moonlight or max.

The Quark Pro Series include batteries, a lanyard, holster, hand grip or finger grip, split ring, and spare o-rings. All of the Quark Pro flashlights include a pocket clip with the exception of the QPLC (1xCR123A)

Quark Tactical

The Foursevens Quark Tactical Series brings all of the Quark Pro series features over and adds to it. Foursevens changed the tail cap and added a more accessible switch to protrudes slightly which makes it easier to operate if you have gloves on. They have also upgraded the button to allow for momentary operation. With the Quark Tactical Series you can give the rear button a slight push and and cycle though the modes or if you just need your light for a second you do not have to fully activate the button. The interface has once again been improved on and now not only do you get the 8 modes of the Quark Pro, but The Quark Tactical can memorize any two modes of output, from its eight total modes. These two modes are accessed by either tightening or loosening the head.

 

To set the two modes you would like to use. Turn on the flashlight and loosen the head by a half-turn. Then, tighten the head at least four times rapidly. After the fourth time leave the head tight or loose, depending on which position you want to program.  After 3 seconds the light will flash and is ready to program.  Cycle through the eight available modes by clicking the tail cap off and on. The modes are:

Moonlight->low->Medium->High->Max->SOS->Strobe->Beacon

Once you find the mode you want leave it on that mode for ten seconds, and the flashlight will flash again, confirming the mode has been set. To cancel the mode before the light flashes turn the flashlight off for more than three seconds.
 If you want instant strobe or straight to the medium output without having to cycle the interface this is may be the light for you. The Quark Tactical flashlights come with batteries, lanyard, holster, hand grip or finger grip, split ring, and spare o-rings. All of the Quark Tactical Flashlights include a pocket clip with the exception of the  QTLC (1xCR123A)

Quark Turbo Series

The Foursevens Quark Turbo series offers all of the features of the Quark Tactical and features a larger and deeper reflector to improve the throw. Foursevens only makes three Quark Turbo models, The QB2A (2xAA), QB2L (2xCR123A), and QB2L-X (2xCR123A). The QB2L-X uses a Gen 2 CREE XM-L LED and a larger reflector than the QB2L. The upgrade LED put out a crazy 540 max lumens.



Foursevens offers all the heads, body's, and tailcaps for replacement parts. They have also made some nice accessories to go along with the Quark flashlights. If you are looking for a hands free light Foursevens offers a prism kit for the Quark Pro and Tactical Series. This slides over the head of the flashlight and angles your light 90 degrees. The prism kit also includes a head band, and you can also get a filter kit that includes red, green, and blue filters if needed. You can get a sweet custom made leather holster or my personal favorite a Deep Carry Clip.

This means all recoil impact is absorbed and no pain is transferred to the shooter reducing the challenge to reacquire the target by minimizing the muzzle lift.

Armor Plating Explained by Range Monkey

Body armor standards are regional. Around the world ammunition varies and as a result the armor testing must reflect the threats found locally. While many standards exist, a few standards are widely used as models. The US National Institute of Justice ballistic and stab documents are examples of broadly accepted standards. These "model" standards are usually adapted by other counties by incorporation of the basic test methodologies with modification of the bullets that are required for test. NIJ Standard-0101.06 has specific performance standards for bullet resistant vests used by law enforcement. This rates vests on the following scale against penetration and also blunt trauma protection (deformation).

Type I (.380 ACP)	This armor would protect against 2.6 g (40 gr) .22 Long Rifle Lead Round Nose (LR LRN) bullets at a velocity of 329 m/s (1080 ft/s ± 30 ft/s) and 6.2 g (95 gr) .380 ACP Full Metal Jacketed Round Nose (FMJ RN) bullets at a velocity of 322 m/s (1055 ft/s ± 30 ft/s). It is no longer part of the standard.

Type III (Rifles)	Conditioned armor protects against 9.6 g (148 gr) 7.62×51mm NATO M80 ball bullets at a velocity of 847 m/s ± 9.1 m/s (2780 ft/s ± 30 ft/s). It also provides protection against the threats mentioned in [Types I, IIA, II, and IIIA].
Type IV (Armor Piercing Rifle)	Conditioned armor protects against 10.8 g (166 gr) .30-06 Springfield M2 armor-piercing (AP) bullets at a velocity of 878 m/s ± 9.1 m/s (2880 ft/s ± 30 ft/s). It also provides at least single hit protection against the threats mentioned in [Types I, IIA, II, IIIA, and III].

Pistol Mount Flashlight and Laser Combo - UTG LT-TLP28 - VS - NC Star AQPFLS

We have had a lot of questions come in recently about the two of our most popular compact flashlight and laser combos. First the specs:

For the money both of these lights are good options. I prefer the switch on the NC Star over the UTG, but both offer ether on/off or momentary on.On the UTG you can also leave the switch in the on position and add one of there pressure switches if you plan on mounting it on a rifle. They also both have three settings, flashlight only, laser only, and both flashlight and laser. The NC Star has a toggle switch on the back and the UTG has a rotating part behind the bezel to change it. 

The NC Star is a little smaller and lighter then the UTG, but there is one obvious flaw I ran into. 

The Quick Release mount on the AQPFLS did not fit the Glock I had on hand. It did slide on the PF9 but the back of the light hit the trigger guard before I was able to get it locked in. I put it on a rifle we had and it fit fine so just make sure your rail is to spec. before you buy it. 

The Nc Star is LED so the light has a blueish tinit to it. The UTG uses a Xenon bulb so the light is more yellow. Both of the light seemed to put out the same amount of light.

I prefer the size of the NC Star but the mount will limit what you can use it for. All in all both lights are a good deal for the money and as long as it fits I think you will be happy.
